Travel: Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia and Brunei for 4D3N in Less than ₱12,000

Everybody been dreaming to travel abroad and of course! Who would not want to experience the airplane?

As a student, it was very hard to save money. But if you really want something, do everything to make it happen. That's what I did. And Yes! I'm proud to say that I ticked off 1/100 in my Bucket List from my own money (mural rakets, savings from my allowance).

I never expect the first country that i will visit would be Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia with a side trip of Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei where my father is working. Yep! Got the chance also to meet my Papa and bond with him for one day in Brunei.

For first time traveler like me some might think that I should visit first other Asian countries but I assure you guys! Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia and Brunei is a place you must visit. It will definitely take your breath away. I'm lucky also to be able to spend my first out of country with Kyle, Kyra, and Ian. Everything happened during our trip was so memorable and a moment to be cherished. Travelling with them for the first time made me realized that it's not based on how long your friendship is, it's about how you value each other and make happy memories together.

Thing to Know:

  • The Weather on these places is similar to Philippines.
  • The Currency in Malaysia is Ringgit (MYR) and Dollar (BND) for Brunei. In our case, we already exchange our Philippine money to US Dollar in NAIA Airport, then USD to MYR when we are in Kota and USD to BND in Brunei.
  • You don't need to worry about Visa because Filipino can visit these two countries, you can stay up to 30 days in Malaysia while 14 days in Brunei.

Where to Book Flight?
CEBU PACIFIC

  • Ian booked our Roundtrip Ticket from MNL - BKI / BKI - MNL in Cebu Pacific. Guess what? He find a cheap flight for only ₱3,851 because CebPac has a promo that time and maybe the chosen month also affects the price. I know that there's a lot of sale cheaper ours flight, all you have to do is wait for the PROMO.

AIR ASIA

  • From BKI - BWN / BWN - BKI, he booked it in Air Asia for only ₱1,500. Why it's cheap? The Air Asia also has a Seat Sale Promo. Actually our plan is to travel by bus from Kota Kinabalu -  Brunei to get 8 stamps in our passport, but we suddenly changed plan.
Note: Philippine Travel Tax is not included in our flight to Mnl - KK / KK -  Mnl.

How to get from Kota Kinabalu - Brunei?

  1. By Bus - From Kota, book a ticket going to Brunei. Take note that there is only one bus per day that goes to Brunei, so better go early to that terminal and also the bus leaves at 8:00 A.M
  2. By Ferry - From Kota, take the ferry to Labuan at Jesselton Ferry Terminal. The ferry schedules are 8:00 A.M and 1:30 P.M. When you already arrived in Labuan, take a ferry to Serasa Ferry Terminal. Note that the schedules from Labuan to Serasa are 10:30 A.M, 1:30 P.M, 4:00 P.M. From Serasa, you can take a bus to Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei
  3. By Plane - There are lots of promo seatsale that you can avail if you plan ahead of time. We got our flight from Kota - Brunei in Air Asia. It will only take 40 minutes when you travel by plane.
